PTF-4-EXT/InPoE is a high-end security solution with 3 levels of protection. Among other things, it uses automaticMOSFETs fuses with a response time of 1uS, which act as an ultra-fast disconnection element. This provides a very high level of protection against both surges and sudden jumps in potential differences. Recommended for protecting routers / switches / IP cameras - mounted on masts, poles or roofs, where they are particularly exposed to lightning discharges.

This eliminates the need for expensive PoE switches and reduces the risk of damage to the power source, which in this case is the PoE switch.
The PoE line has independent protection of the power channels. After a short circuit or overload, the circuit is temporarily disconnected until the current drawn reaches a value not higher than the nominal value. The fuse used is a modern, multifunctional element.

The protection consists of suppressing high-power surge pulses that occur relative to ground (gas spark gaps) and pulses induced between individual UTP twisted pair wires during discharge. These pulses have a destructive effect on Ethernet interface amplifiers, despite the galvanic isolation used at the hardware layer.
Terminals 4,5 and 7,8 are used for power supply and are connected together to increase the current flowing through the protection system. Due to the limited power of the decoupling resistors, the maximum power of the devices being driven must not exceed 15W at 48V. The decoupling resistors protect the protection components from damage in the event of a prolonged overvoltage and allow for protection gradation.

Typical Pro series protection has decoupling elements in the form of special resistors, which, despite their small size, transfer high power for a long time. Heating by the flowing current causes an increase in resistance, which provides electrical decoupling between the individual protection stages. This is necessary to ensure the correct sequence of operation of low and high power protectors. Both resistors and PTC thermistors have a very high time inertia, which creates a risk of pulse generation on the secondary side of the physical layer transformer and will damage Ethernet controllers. This is caused by a sudden current pulse that occurs when high potentials equalize between individual devices. This risk occurs when end devices (IP cameras) are installed on high poles, roofs or grounded metal structures.

During the current flow, its intensity is monitored and if it increases above the set value, the input circuit is automatically disconnected from the output circuit within a maximum of 1uS. This ensures complete isolation of the LAN physical layer from the cable for the risk time and causes a faster voltage rise on the protective elements, which allows for a faster response to any voltage surges. The surge time can last continuously for any length of time, and after its interruption, the electrical connection is automatically restored within 1uS. This design significantly increases the efficiency and speed of the protection operation and contributes to its very high resistance to damage.
